Our guide to what’s on in Laois this weekend

Brought to you by Laois Tourism

There’s lots of drama in Laois this weekend, thankfully all on stage!

The Mountmellick Drama Group is performing “Lovers at Versailles” from Thursday to Saturday in Mountmellick and a beautiful one man monologue on the life of Vincent Van Gough is on in the Dunmaise Arts Centre.

Johnny McEvoy is playing in the Midlands Park Hotel and there’s comedy and live music in Kavanagh’s Bar and Venue. So no shortage of things to do this weekend!

THURSDAY FEBRUARY 7

Lovers at Versailles – Drama

Mountmellick Drama Group presents this heart-warming drama by Bernard Farrell over three nights. The play examines the plight of three women who are left behind when Stephen Sullivan suddenly dies.

His wife, Clara, always suspected that Stephen had a hidden life. His daughter, Isobel, is determined to use every opportunity to move up the social ladder and Anna, Stephen’s favourite daughter, is now offered a second chance at happiness.

Not to be missed. Running in the Mountmellick Community Arts Centre on February 7, 8 and 9 at 8pm. Tickets are €10, concessions €5.

National Heritage Plan Info Session

Heritage Ireland 2030 is the Government’s new National Heritage Plan, and your views are now being sought, to make this the best possible plan for our heritage and our communities.

Vincent – A Play

A beautiful piece about the life of Vincent Van Gogh. Vincent is an astonishing, fervent piece: a 90-minute, non-stop monologue, with one interval.

The action takes place in Paris, 1890, one week after Vincent’s suicide at the age of 37, as his grieving brother, Theo, recalls his life through the many letters they shared.

An intense delivery reveals the contents of the letters, allowing us to feel the loss, anger, frustration and (sometimes) joy of his tumultuous relationship with Vincent.

Tickets cost €18/€16 and the show begins at 8pm in Dunamaise Arts Centre.
