It’s the weekend again and as usual there is a very varied schedule of events running across the county.

There’s great live music in Kavanagh’s Bar and Venue, A Gala Ball in the Heritage in Killenard and live theatre in the Dunamaise Arts Centre all happening Friday Night.

There’s a world class Brazilian Jiu Jitsu event with Ireland v Poland on Saturday and the first stage of The Triton Showers Irish National Rally Championship in Abbeyleix on Sunday.

For the romantics planning their big day don’t miss the wedding Extravaganza in the Killeshin Hotel on Sunday afternoon. Something for everyone.

FRIDAY FEBRUARY 22

The Legend of Luke Kelly            

Don’t miss Chris Kavanagh and his well-known passionate performances of folk singer Luke Kelly’s songs with his successful band “The Legend of Luke Kelly”.

Playing this Friday night in Kavanaghs Bar and Venue at 9.30pm.  Tickets cost €19 and can be purchased here.

Portarlington Gala Ball 

The Portarlington Gala Ball will be held in the Heritage Hotel Killenard and promises to very glamourous evening.

Enjoy a four course meal with wine, followed by a luxury raffle and live music by Transmitter. Tickets are €60 and all proceeds are in aid of the Braveheart Special Club.

This is the Funeral of Your Life  

Dunamaise Arts Centre  is proud to welcome Abbeyleix native, inventive theatre-maker Louise White, with this poignant and heart-warming show about death and the challenges of living.

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 23

Slieve Bloom Guided Walk         

The Slieve Bloom Walking Club’s next guided walk is Knockatrina Woods (Family Walk).  This walk is a Grade C 5km walk and takes 2 so suitable for all.

Oldskool – The Evolution of Hip-Hop                     

Oldskool comes to Kavanagh’s Bar and Venue to perform the hits of the world’s biggest hip-hop acts of the last 40 years; from Run DMC, Beastie Boys & Grandmaster Flash right through to Kanye West, Missy Elliott & Jay Z. The gig begins at 9.30pm and cost €12. Tickets can be purchased here.

Grapple Kings 3

Grapple Kings 3 returns on Saturday 23rd February with their biggest event to date: Ireland v Poland. Don’t miss the biggest Brazilian Jiu Jitsu event of the year in Dunamaise Arts Centre.  Tickets cost €40/€30 and the kicks off at 5pm.

SUNDAY FEBRUARY 24

Slieve Bloom Guided Walk

The Slieve Bloom Walking Club’s next guided walk is Glenlahan River Valley Walk.  This walk is a Grade A 9km walk and takes 4 hours so a good level of fitness is required.

Meeting point is at Clonaslee Community Centre at 11am.  €5 per walk or €20 annual membership (€30 for family).

Abbeyleix Manor Hotel Stages Rally 2019           

The Triton Showers Irish National Rally Championship takes place over 8 rounds which bring crews all over the country of Ireland.  Round 1 begins at the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel and is hosted by Birr and District Stages Car Rally.

This round will comprise of the Triton Showers National Rally Championship Round 1 Top Part & Midland East Championships. (All vehicles will be leaving from the hotel). For more information see here.

Wedding Extravaganza  -The Killeshin Hotel        

The Killeshin are going all out this Sunday with their wedding extravaganza.  With over 30 supplier exhibiting, find everything under one roof to plan an unforgettable day.

The Jury is always a great way to finish off the weekend. Come see them play on at 9.30pm in Kavanagh’s Bar & Venue.

Truck and Tractor Run, Fundraiser                         

Laois Lions Wheelchair Rugby Club is hosting a truck and tractor fundraiser beginning at Treacy’s Bar and following a route in the Portlaoise area. Great fun will ensue and all for a great cause.  The run begins at  2pm.  For more information see here.
