The death has occurred of former Stradbally Church of Ireland Rector, the Very Rev William Beare.

He was highly regarded, much respected and fondly remembered throughout the entire community in Stradbally where he served for a long number of years. He was a staunch advocate of the ecumenical tradition.

Rev Beare, or Billy, as he was best known to his family and friends was a talented musician and singer and he gave tuition in music lessons. He also organised, conducted and took part in local choirs.

Another talent was for calligraphy and he was often called on to draw and write parchments and scrolls for official ceremonies and events.

Rev. Beare originally came from a farming family in Bandon in Cork.

He was the last minister in Stradbally to live in the Rectory House on Church Avenue as it was later sold after he departed the town.

He then went on to continue his clerical duties in Lismore, Waterford, before retiring back to his native county.

He died on Friday, March 15 in Cork University Hospital.

Rev Beare was the husband of the late Rose Alice Hurley and father of Walter and Rachel.

He is also survived by his brothers Bob and George and an extended family and extensive circle of friends.

His funeral service takes place on Monday, March 18 at 11am in St Peter’s Church Bandon, with burial afterwards in Kilbeg Cemetery.

May he Rest in Peace.
