It’s that time of the week again when we look to see what’s going on for the weekend.

The Laois Open Door Group is preforming a hilarious comedy in the Dunamaise Arts Centre this Friday and Saturday night. The play has got great reviews and is an excellent start to a great night out.

We’ve fabulous markets in both Mountrath and Mountmellick this weekend which are ideal for foodies and lovers of arts and crafts.

The Slieve Bloom Walking group have a lovely walk around the Monicknew area and it’s a lovely way to get to know the area. Lots to keep us busy!

FRIDAY APRIL 5

Laois Open Door Theatre presents: Perfect Wedding

Laois Open Door presents the drama, A Perfect Wedding. The play outlines how a perfect wedding day goes disastrously wrong causing chaos for all concerned.

It is an endless series of excuses, games of hide and seek, lies, confusion and false confessions that will leave you crying with laughter over the course of this fast-moving, hilarious comedy.

The show begins at 8pm on Friday and Saturday night in the Dunamaise Arts Centre. Tickets are €16/€14 and are on sale here.

SATURDAY APRIL 6

The Jury

Local favourites The Jury play Kavanagh’s Bar & Venue on Saturday night. There is no cover charge and the gig begins at 9.30pm.

Storytelling Workshop

Spink Comhaltas are hosting a workshop on the art of Irish Story Telling on Saturday 6 April in Abbeyleix Heritage House with master Story Teller Dick Beamish.

There are limited spaces still available and it costs € 15. The workshop will run for 4 hours from 1pm to 5pm.

There is no age limit on this but anyone attending needs to be confident speaking and taking part in a group workshop, so as a guide, age 12 upwards is recommended. To book or to find out more contact Spink Comhaltas here.

The Cottage Market – Mountrath
The monthly Cottage Market is back this Saturday in the Macra Hall in Mountrath. There will be lots of home-made or home grown stands from local artisan producers. Not to be missed. The market runs from 10am to 1pm.

SUNDAY APRIL 7

Slieve Bloom Guided Walk

The Slieve Bloom Walking Club’s next guided walk is Bocadh Lodge Walk. This walk is a Grade B 10km walk and takes 3-4 hours so a good level of fitness is required. Meeting point is at Monicknew Car Park at 11am. €5 per walk or €20 annual membership (€30 for family).

Rod & Billy – Live Music

Rod & Billy, members of Aslan play Turley’s Pub in Mountmellick on Sunday evening at 7pm. A great way to round off the weekend.

Slieve Bloom Market

The Slieve Bloom Market hosts its monthly fair in the Macra Hall in Mountmellick. There will be lots of food and craft stalls from Artisan producers. The market runs from 11am-3pm.
