€20,000 worth of drugs found in Portlaoise searches

During an intelligence led operation on Thursday April 18, Revenue officers seized a package containing 1 kilo of herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of €20,000, during searches under warrant of two properties in the Portlaoise area.

In a joint operation, Gardaí arrested a 23 year old Irish man, a 22 year old Lithuanian man and a 20 year old Polish man.

The three men were detained under Section 2 of The Criminal Justice (Drugs Trafficking) Act 1996 and brought to Portlaoise Garda Station for questioning.

This joint operation was done by Revenue, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, and the Divisional Drugs Unit in Portlaoise Garda Station,

In separate routine operations carried in Dublin port on Thursday April 18, Revenue officers seized 500 litres of wine and 6 litres of spirits with a retail value of €7,260, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €3,600.

The goods were discovered when officers conducted examinations of two vehicles which had arrived from France.

Investigations are ongoing.

These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting drug importations and the supply and sale of illicit alcohol products in the shadow economy.
