Rock of Dunamase under lockdown by Gardai and Defence Forces

Laois got the lowest amount of funding from Tourism board

The Rock of Dunamase, one of Laois’s main tourist attractions, has been under lockdown for the last 24 hours.

Members of an Garda siochana set up road blocks around the historic site around 3pm yesterday, Tuesday June 18.

Gardai remained at the Rock of Dunamase overnight and are still present now.

They have since been joined by members of the Defence Forces.

LaoisToday has made repeated attempts to contact the Gardai, the Defence Forces and the Office of Public Works, who manage the Rock, but has so far failed to receive a response.

In a statement last night, the Garda press office said it did not comment on live investigations.

It is believed however that Gardai and the Defence Forces are searching for the remains of a man who went missing in Laois back in January of this year.

At present, around three or four Garda vans are present at the location along with a number of squad cars.
