Electric Picnic Campsite

Gardai have launched an investigation after a teenage girl alleged that she was the victim of rape at the Electric Picnic over the weekend.

Yesterday, Gardai revealed there dealt with almost 500 incidents at the festival with the majority of those being deemed as drug related.

However, they did say that one of those incidents involved a sexual assault and according to the Irish Daily Star, that was the alleged rape of a young girl.

According to the paper, Gardai were called to the alleged scene at around 12pm on Saturday.

They say that it is alleged that two boys lured the teenage girl to a tent where they forced themselves on her.

The Irish Daily Star reports that the girl attended the sexual assault treatment unit shortly after reporting the incident.

It is understood that the two boys believed to have been involved will now be questioned by Gardai over the incident.

Last weekend’s Electric Picnic was the biggest to date with almost 60,000 flocking to Stradbally for the annual festival.

After 15 years, it is believed the capacity will be increased again next year.

Tickets for the 2020 event are going to go on sale again this Saturday.
