2019 Remembered: Business forced to close in Abbeyleix following extensive fire

Quinn Tea Rooms

In February, a business in Abbeyleix was forced to close it’s doors temporarily following an overnight fire.

A business in Abbeyleix has been forced to close its doors this morning following an overnight fire.

The Abbeyleix Facebook page announced this morning that Quinn’s Tea Rooms would not open following the incident.

They said: “Following an extensive fire in the early hours of this morning Quinn’s Tea Rooms will be closed until further notice.”

The fire was brought under control by the Laois Fire Service.

Units from Abbeyleix and Durrow were called to the scene at 5.35am.

The scene has been cleared and nobody has been injured. Traffic in the town is moving slowly at present.

Speaking to Midlands 103, Anthony Tynan, Assistant Chief Fire Officer says there’s no suspicion of foul play.

He said: “Well obviously the fire has created a good bit of damage, so the fighters now will have to go about getting the place made good again, so there was considerable damage from the fire absolutely, and from the smoke.

“It looks to be accidental at this stage, there was nothing particularly unusual to say anything else.”

This is the second fire to happen in Laois in recent days as a house in Portlaoise caught fire on Saturday night.

A house in the Beechfield Estate on the Mountmellick road towards the front of the estate erupted in a blaze.
