Local primary school adds two ASD classes for children with autism

Castletown NS have been sanctioned for two Autism Spectrum Disorder classes.

Exclusively mainstream classes aren’t always the best setting for autistic students and children will be able to attend this ASD class which will allow them to integrate into a mainstream school community.

Students availing of the classes will be able to participate as far as possible in the curriculum, but with additional supports and resources in the areas they find difficult to cope with.

The two classes are set to start in September of this year.

Jemma Lynch, principal of Castletown NS, said it is “really, really exciting”.

“It promotes wonderful integration between the students.”

This addition will ensure a number of new jobs with two new teachers and some Special Needs Assistants.

Local TD Sean Fleming was on hand for the announcement.
