And just like that the Laois GAA club championships are back.
After five months of inactivity, there is a sense of relative normality this week as the Laois hurling championships get underway.
On Tuesday, Ballypickas and Trumera got the show on the road in the Laois IHC while on Thursday, Borris-Kilcotton got the better of Camross in the opening round of the Laois SHC in MW Hire O’Moore Park and Portlaoise beat Ballyfin in the Premier IHC in Mountrath.
The key difference from previous years of course is that the games are played in front of much smaller crowds with a limit of 200 (including players and officials) in place until August 10 at the earliest.
It has led to the surreal situation of all-ticket games and live streaming of the senior matches from O’Moore Park.
This evening is busy again with three games in each of the top three grades around the county.
O’Moore Park again hosts the big game of the evening when champions Rathdowney-Errill will take on neighbours Clough-Ballacolla. Rory Delaney will be reporting on that one for us.
In Colt, Steven Miller will be keeping an eye on Camross and The Harps in the second tier Premier IHC while Alan Hartnett will be in Ratheniska for the meeting of Park-Ratheniska/Timahoe and Mountmellick in the Laois IHC.
