Four Covid-19 patients in Portlaoise Hospital as figures now highest since June

There are four patients being treated for Covid-19 in Portlaoise Hospital.

Thankfully, none of the patients are being treated in critical care units and are fighting the virus from general beds.

These are the latest figures pertaining to the hospital as of 8pm last night.

The newest patient was admitted yesterday – sometime between 2 and 8pm.

The Covid-19 Daily Operations Update shows that the hospital is full with no general or critical care beds available.

It also shows that nationally there are now 171 people in hospital being treated for Coronavirus.

This an increase of 54 since September 30 and is the highest figure since June 2.

The number has been steadily rising since the start of September but it is still well below the almost 900 that were in hospitals in the middle of April.

Nationally, there are 27 patients being treated in Critical Care Units and 17 of these are on ventilators.

A further 10 suspected cases are in Critical Care Units with one of these on ventilators.
