Coronavirus: 14-day incident rate in Laois at highest level since April peak

The 14-day incident rate in Laois

There have been 114 Coronavirus cases in Laois in the last 14 days, up to midnight on October 11, giving an incident rate of 134.6 per 100,000 people.

This is the highest it has been since April when it peaked at 183.01 with 155 cases.

Currently the national average is 167.75 per 100,000 meaning Laois is below it.

The border counties of Cavan, Donegal and Monaghan have the highest rates with 385.95, 354.92 and 330.69 respectively while Dublin, which was the first county to be placed on the Level 3 restrictions, is at 178.42.

During the localised lockdown of Laois, Offaly and Kildare in August, the Laois incident rate peaked at 86.19 on August 9, which is considerably lower than it is now.

The rate dropped as low as 22.43 by September 8 and though it remained at a low level for about three weeks and never rose over 50, it has shown a sharp increase since September 28.

The 28 cases announced on October 2 was the highest individual number of cases in Laois since April 17 where there was 21 cases while there was 19 announced on August 1.

31 of the cases are associated with the outbreak in the Kilminchy Lodge Nursing Home but the remainder are from all over the county.

The Department of Health have only been announcing the counties with the high cases on a daily basis – meaning there can be a lag in establishing the total number of local cases at the 14-day rate.

The Laois rate will increase again following today’s announcements if there is any cases at all as the September 28 figures (when there was no Laois cases) go out of the system.
