Coronavirus: ALL household visits to be banned from tomorrow night

ALL household visits are to be banned from midnight on Thursday in the latest attempt to get the Coronavirus under control in Ireland.

Under Level 3 restrictions, up to six people from one household can visit another but that is set to be changed.

The only exceptions are believed where someone is caring for another person or on compassionate grounds.

The news comes following the announcement of 1,096 new cases today – the highest daily figure since the pandemic began.

In Laois, there was just three new cases today though the county is far from being in a good place with a fourth person from Kilminchy Lodge Nursing Home passing away with the virus and a ward in Portlaoise Hospital closed.

For the first time in over two weeks, the 14-day incident rate in Laois has declined.

It now stands at 135.8 per 100,000 people compared to the national average of 190.7.

Cavan has by far the highest rate with a massive 571 per 100,000 people while Monaghan has 360 and Donegal has 353.7. Dublin, which had 246 new cases today, currently stands 185.4.

Only six counties currently have a lower rate than Laois at present – Kilkenny, Mayo, Tipperary, Carlow, Wicklow and Waterford, which is the lowest, at 69.7.

The Laois incident rate should drop further tomorrow if there are fewer than 11 cases – as the 11 cases from September 30 will drop out of the calculations for the 14-day figure.
