2020 Remembered: Horse with strong Laois connections scoops €78,000 in Cheltenham

Back in March, a Laois Limerick syndicate bagged a substantial sum of money in Cheltenham.

A horse with strong Laois connections scooped €78,000 at Cheltenham this afternoon.

Ronald Pump finished second in the Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle today – the feature race of the day.

The 20/1 shot came in second place behind shock 50/1 winner Lisnagar Oscar.

7-year-old Ronald Pump is owned by the Laois Limerick Syndicate.

The syndicate is comprised of three people – one from Limerick and one from Laois.

The Laois natives are Dave Sullivan and Joe Dunne.

The latter comes from Mountmellick and is a secondary school teacher in Offaly.

Dunne is also extremely well known in political circles as he is chairman of the Fianna Fail party in Laois – a role he has held since 2017.

The horse was ridden by Kerry jockey Bryan Cooper and trained by Meath man Matthew Smith.

Congratulations to Joe and all concerned!
