In October, one Laois received a substantial amount of money for his bull at auction.
Laois farmer Garett Behan is a highly-regarded pedigree cattle breeder and he hit the headlines over the weekend when he sold a Simmental bull for €52,000 at auction.
Clonagh Lucky Explorer was sold at the Irish Simmental Cattle Society premier sale in Roscommon on Saturday for a record €52,000.
The 1,000kg bull was sired by Manor Park Hansome and dam Clonagh Dora the Explorer was born in May 2019.
Manor Park Hansome was bought by Garett in Scotland while Dora the Explorer is a multiple champion at shows over the last number of years.
It’s understood the buyer on this occasion was a UK-based farmer.
Garrett Behan along with his wife Lyndsey and father Tom run the Clonagh and Jennalyn pedigree herds near Ballyfin.
Garett’s mother Mary bought their first pedigree Simmental in the late 1980s.
As well as breeding, Clonagh Pedigree Herds have been ever present on the show scene for a long number of years in both Ireland and abroad.
While the farm has a mix of Angus, Charolais and Limousin, the Simmentals make up the bulk of what they do.
