Ireland’s very first electric bus set to be launched in Laois next week

The name Martleys has been synonymous with bus transport in Laois for generations – and now they are leading the way once again.

They have recently invested in an electric bus which will be the first of its kind in the country and used by Local Link Laois-Offaly.

The recent purchase of the electric bus provides a huge opportunity for Ireland and Laois to achieve the goal of a more sustainable future.

The bus will be into operation for TFI Local Link Laois Offaly next Monday.

The news has been roundly welcomed by local politicians online.

Laois TD Sean Fleming said: “Ireland’s first fully electric passenger bus on the road, picking up passengers.

“Congratulations to Mark Martley and all in Martley’s Bus Service in Portlaoise, who have done this entirely out of their own resources.”

Fine Gael TD Charlie Flanagan said: “Great news from Martleys Coaches with the first electric bus service.

“Wishing operators and users all the very best with this progressive and exciting initiative.”

While Green Party Minister Pippa Hackett added: “This is wonderful to see – the first electric bus in Laois.

“Well done to Martleys Coaches for embracing this low carbon approach – and completely in keeping with Ireland’s first Low Carbon Town in Portlaoise.”

Fair play to all involved!
