SVT Hub launches weekly Family Cycle Group in Stradbally

Stradbally SVT Cycle

Lockdown is easing and the SVT Activity and Wellness Hub is getting ready for a busy summer.

The SVT Hub is based in Stradbally Vicarstown and Timahoe, and has been very active since its inception in 2016.

It has hosted numerous events, and has also developed legacy activities, in particular in the Vicarstown area.

The SVT Canoeing and Kayaking Club is one such legacy, along with the Sunday morning 2k junior parkrun, and the Tuesday evening Weekly Family Cycling Group.

In addition there are some new initiatives planned for Vicarstown for 2021 which will work in conjunction with the new Barrow Blueway.

The Blueway is a multi-activity recreational trail by the grand canal, and construction on the section towards Athy is well on the way to completion.

The latest SVT Hub initiative planned is the Stradbally Family Cycle, commencing on Thursday next May 27th, and every Thursday for the summer months.

Cyclists are invited to gather at the Market House on Thursday evening from 7pm, with the cycle starting at 7:15pm sharp.

The route will be down Main St, out the Athy Road, left at Curraclone, across to Inch Cross, and back onto Main Street and the Market House. This is about 10k and has a good hill at Knocknabraher.

Those who wish to take part are asked to observe the following:

  • Make sure your tyres are pumped and your brakes are working
  • Wear a helmet and high-vis vest
  • No unaccompanied children please, and make sure everyone can cycle up and down the hills safely
  • There will be a complimentary ice-cream and cup of tea afterwards in Simpsons Gala to mark this first event
  • Over the next few weeks, other scenic cycling routes around the area will be explored.
