A Laois teenager raised almost €4,000 for two charities after sheering off his very impressive mullet.

Sam Birrane, from Portlaoise, shaved his head last month in aid of the Cuisle Centre and Galway Hospice.

A talented sportsperson, who plays football and hurling for Portlaoise, Sam grew an impressive mullet over the last year.

However, along the way, his grandfather Martin Birrane, who comes from Mayo, passed away last August.

The late Martin was a patient at the Galway hospice before his death.

Meanwhile, The Cuisle Centre in Portlaoise are close to Sam’s heart as they have been a great source of ongoing support to his cousin lately.

So, with the help of his mother, Sam launched a fundraiser on Facebook and promised to shave his head.

Donations flooded in and the big day arrived on January 22 in Caveman Barbers in Portlaoise.

By then, Sam had raised a massive €3,925. €1,200 of that went to Galway Hospice and €2,725 went to the Cuisle Centre.
