Abbeyleix FETC launches new Bio Science course to begin this September

Demand for science graduates is at an all-time high as the European Commission predicts employment in Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) related sectors is expected to rise by around 6.5% between now and 2025.

Abbeyleix Further Education and Training Centre is now enrolling for its new Bioscience Course commencing in September offering QQI level 5 certification.

This fully-funded full-time programme has its finger on the pulse when it comes to the skills required for the work place or onward third level progression.

Local businesses have welcomed the opportunities this course will provide. John Drennan, Quality & Technical Manager of the Abbeyleix based First Ireland Spirits, said: “It will be great for the community to have a dedicated science course running in Abbeyleix.

“The skills that students will develop on the course will be of immense benefit to them both in terms of advanced study at third level and in their future workplace.

“The work experience element on the course is particularly welcome as it will provide students with practical insights into their chosen career path.

“We are delighted to endorse this new and exciting programme and look forward to working with Abbeyleix Further Education and Training Centre into the future.”

Other highlights of the programme include free transport with a bus servicing Portarlington, Mountmellick, Portlaoise, Mountrath and Rathdowney, IT grant schemes and learner support and guidance services offering and one-to-one support.

If you are interested in working in science, then this programme offers everything you will need to make this a reality. It will provide you with all the practical laboratory techniques needed to meet current industry needs and help provide a clear pathway into a career in the science sector.
