Stage set for ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ as Mountmellick Macra Pantomime to wow audience

Mountmellick Macra’s annual Pantomime is back after a two-year hiatus.

Produced and directed by Brian Brady, the pantomime is an adaptation of the children’s much loved fairy tale with a few twists and turns along the way.

Little Red Riding Hood lives at the edge of the forest. Rumour has it that the big bad wolf (Claire Stewart) is back and lurking in the forest looking for its next prey.

The good Fairy (Amy Strong/Alanah Conroy) warns the wolf to stay away, but he has other plans.

Little Red Riding Hood (Alanah Conroy/Amy Strong) loves walking through the forest despite being warned not to walk there alone, will she end up in trouble?

The much-loved singing village baker, Granny (Joanne Teehan), is the only person to ever banish the wolf from the forest.

Granny has her own problems though due to the cost of living she owes rent money to the mean Baron (Christine Ryan).

Meanwhile, a handsome stranger, (Joseph Gorman) comes to the village looking for work. Is he guarding a secret? Could he really be a Prince looking for love?

Things take a nasty turn when the prince is accused of stealing from the Baron and has to try and clear his name. No fear though because the comedy duo of Smash (Robert Rowan) and Grab (Andrew Dunne) are back in Mountmellick and are on hand to help clear the prince’s name.

Will the Prince find love? Will Little Red Riding Hood make it through the forest and will Granny get to keep her bakery.

While we mightn’t get all the answers, one thing is for sure when Smash and Grab are around, it can only mean chaos and confusion and a belly full of laughter.

New and familiar faces are taking to the stage along with a cast of 50 children.

The show runs from Thursday 23rd February – Sunday 26th February.

Curtains up at 8.15pm sharp each night (Thursday – Saturday) with a matinee at 3.00pm and 7.00pm on Sunday.

Tickets are €15 for adults, €10 for children, with family rates available and are available on the door and from O’Gormans Newsagents.

There will also be a card facility for anyone wishing to pay by card on the night.
