Killian Roche and Conor Heffernan are teammates the vast majority of the time when they take to the field – but that wasn’t the case last night.
UCD and DCU met in Round 2A of the Sigerson Cup Billings Park, Belfield and the former emerged as one point winners.
UCD triumphed on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-10 with Killeshin’s Killian Roche in goal for the victors.
DCU had his Killeshin and Laois teammate Conor Heffernan in midfield as the pair, and their teams, battled it out for 60-plus minutes.
The home side opened the scoring but DCU took over after that and led 0-6 to 0-3 at half time.
UCD came storming back in the second half and the sides were level as the game approached the closing stages – with Roche, as he so often does, kicking a point himself.
In the end, Roscommon senior footballer Daire Cregg slotted a late mark as UCD progressed to the quarter finals.
Heffernan’s DCU, who defeated MTU Kerry in Round 1, are still alive as the Sigerson Cup is ran in the same format as the Laois SFC – knockout with a backdoor.
They will now face one of the teams who won in Round 2B in Round 3 for a place in the last eight.
