Portlaoise do the double at Laois Novice Road Race

Athletics: Downey’s Nissan Laois Novice Road Race

There was a double for Portlaoise Athletics Club at the Laois Novice Road Race in Ballyfin on Sunday morning.

Tom Lupton won the men’s race while Louise Stack completed a good week by easily winning the ladies race just days after claiming gold at the South Leinster schools cross country.

St Abban’s won the men’s team event with Stan Geoghegan (2nd), Dermot Ayres (3rd), Colin Coyne (4th) and James Nolan (9th).

Portlaoise were second in the men’s team event with Ballyfin third.

Sinead Kelly (St Abban’s) was second in the ladies race with Joanne Carroll from Portlaoise in third.

Portlaoise won the ladies team event with St Abban’s second and St Michael’s third.

There was also a full underage schedule of races in the even-age categories from U-8 to U-18.

The Laois intermediate Road Race will take place in Vicarstown on Sunday, February 19.
