‘Viable proposal’ will be considered to save Cistercian Roscrea

Cistercian Roscrea

The Abbott of Mount St Joseph Abbey in Roscrea has said that he is committed to giving “full consideration to any future viable proposal” to save Cistercian College Roscrea.

Dom Richard Purcell also added that following many “heartwarming expressions of support” on the back of last week’s announcement that the school was to close, no further action will be taken, “pending engagement with the group to be formed among parents and past pupils”.

“While I do not wish to give any false hope I have committed to give full consideration to any future viable proposal,” he writes in a statement issued today.

No further action will be taken until March 17.

A group of parents and past pupils have come together and are looking at various options available to keep the school open. A meeting was attended by over 400 interested stakeholders in the County Arms Hotel in Birr during the week.

“In light of this development, the meetings scheduled for this Sunday with the Co Managers will not take place. Tea and coffee will be served from 7.30pm on Sunday which will be an opportunity for parents and students to come together after what has been a difficult week for all.”
