Gardai are investigating a stabbing incident in Portlaoise at the town’s social welfare office this morning.
A crime scene has been declared at the Department of Social Welfare Office on Church St which is just around the corner from the town’s court house.
A man, aged in his late 20s, received apparent stab wounds and was brought to Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise with non life threatening injuries.
Gardaí arrested a man in his late 20s, a short time and distance away.
He is currently detained at Portlaoise Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
A garda remains on duty at the scene with an investigation underway.
The office is open as normal to the public.
