Five-year-old girl suffers broken leg in hit and run in Portlaoise

Gardai are seeking the public's help

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a five-year-old girl suffered a broken leg after being hit by a car in a housing estate on the Mountrath Road in Portlaoise on Thursday evening.

The young girl has had to undergo two operations in Tullamore Hospital following the incident which saw her knocked down by a car which then sped away.

The injuries aren’t life threatening but it was a hugely traumatic experience for all involved.

The incident happened at about 6.15pm in the Bellingham estate on the Mountrath Road.

A Garda spokesperson told LaoisToday that they are asking witnesses to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 8674100.
