The Rock make the drop as Timahoe lose ground in promotion race

Annanough and Barrowhouse will do battle in this IFC relegation decider

There were two games down for decision in ACFL Division 2 this evening with the results having an impact on both ends of the table ahead of this weekend’s final round.

Kilcavan came from five points down to beat The Rock by 1-10 to 0-12, a result which sends The Rock down to Division 3 for 2018. The Rock had led 0-7 to 0-5 at half time but Kilcavan came back well in the second half to record a hard-fought win that secures their own status for next season.

In the other game in Division 2 an understrength Timahoe side were no match for St Joseph’s as they trailed 1-7 to 0-2 at half time before eventually going down by 2-15 to 0-7.

The result means that another contender for a semi-final place and promotion has missed the chance. Courtwood, Rosenallis and now Timahow have all been beaten in recent days, thus missing the chance to boost their chance of reaching the semi-final. Mountmellick are already guaranteed to top the group and are in the final while the two semi-finalists will play off to see who joins them in making the jump to Division 1A next season.

The final round of games is fixed for this Saturday with the fixtures as follows.

Rosenallis v Kilcavan
Courtwood v Ballyfin
Barrowhouse v Timahoe
The Rock v St Joseph’s
Mountmellick v Clonaslee

There is also one outstanding game to be played between The Rock and Clonaslee, although with nothing to play for for either side it remains to be seen if this fixture will go ahead.
