Man smashed up pub after being refused service

A man went behind the bar of local pub and smashed glasses when staff refused to serve him over the weekend.

The incident occurred at the Weighbridge Inn in Portarlington in the early hours of Sunday morning, July 9.

The man was incensed at not being served and went behind the bar where he proceeded to throw glasses around the pub.

Staff and patrons were uninjured in the incident although the incident is understood to have been an upsetting one for the staff working there.

The local man, in his late 20s, left the bar before gardai arrived.

However, he met gardai by appointment since and a file is being prepared for the DPP on the public order incident.

At the same premises, earlier in the week, a person broke into the pub and stole a bottle of spirits.

On July 5 at approximately 2 am, the door of the premises was forced and the person went behind the counter and stole the bottle of alcohol.

The alarm was activated during the break-in but gardai say the person made good their escape before gardai arrived.

Anyone with information can contact Portlaoise Gardai on 057 86 74100.
