Appeal for information after armed robbery in Ballybrittas

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward following an armed robbery in Ballybrittas last night.

At around 8.20pm, two males entered Murphy’s Foodstore. One was carrying a hammer and the other is believed to have been wielding a knife.

One of the assailants went behind the counter and stole cash from the till, threatening a staff member in the process.

Both males then left the store and sped away in a dark coloured vehicle.

Both men were wearing balaclavas with one wearing a white t-shirt and black bottoms.

The other was wearing navy with a white top and black bottoms.

No information on the amount taken or the direction in which the thieves took off in is currently available.

No arrests have been made and anyone with information are asked to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 8674100.
