Mountrath Golf Club going for All-Ireland glory

The Mountrath team which recently won the Leinster Golf Jimmy Bruen Shield

Mountrath golf club will be aiming to win an All-Irerland title on Friday when the Jimmy Bryen team contest the final stages in Carton House Gold Resort.

The competition started in May when the team competed in the Leinster qualifying competition in the Heath Golf Club.

Having successfully qualified for the matchplay stages victories over Portarlington, Esker Hills, and Carlow Golf Clubs followed to qualify for the Leinster semi-final played in Kilkenny.

Meath were defeated in the morning of the competitions, where Mountrath then defeated Clontarf.

This was the clubs first trophy since the Barton Cup victory in 1996.

In Friday’s semi-finals Mountrath play Warrenpoint (Ulster) and Castlebar (Connacht) play Ballykisteen ( Munster) with the winners clashing in the all Ireland Final on Saturday.

The Mountrath panel consists of: Paschal Dunphy, Matthew Motts, Colin Bergin, Joseph Carroll, Martin Caroll, Paul Darling, Martin Gaughan, Aidan Manicle, Jim Coss, Michael Brennan, Brian Purcell Snr, Brian Purcell Jnr, James Conroy, Bobby Bergin, Ediie Fitzpatrick, John Hill, Padraig Hearns and team manager Gareth Keogh.
