Man charged following Abbeyleix burglary

A man has been arrested and charged following a burglary at Grallows Wood in Abbeyleix over the weekend.

A suspect entered the house on Friday morning, taking car keys and stealing a car.

This car was later recovered in Portlaoise on Saturday morning, following which a suspect was arrested and detained.

The man has subsequently been charged with unlawful taking and handling stolen property and has been remanded to appear before Portlaoise District Court on Thursday, October 5.

There were a number of burglaries across the midlands over the weekend.

Gardai are investigating two burglaries in the wider Birr area, one in Rath and one in Moorepark Street in the town.

There was another burglary at Ballycue, Geashill on Friday afternoon between 3 pm and 5.30 pm, during which jewellery was taken.

Also, a house was burgled on the Dublin Road in Portlaoise on Saturday where cash, jewellery and tools were stolen.

On the same day, two vans were broken into at different locations.

One of the vehicles was broken into in Blossom Court Portlaoise and the other in Ossory Court, Borris-In-Ossory with tools taken from each.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses in relation to all of these incidents.
