Gardai appealing for information after gun stolen in Portarlington

Gardai in Portarlington are appealing for information about any suspicious activity following the burglary of a gun, safe and firearms from a house on Bishopswood Road in the town.

The robbery took place between 7-8pm on Wednesday evening and Gardai are particularly interested in the movements of a large, dark-coloured estate-type car. Anybody with information is asked to contact Portarlington Garda Station on 057 8623290.

The incident in Portarlington follows on from other robberies in the county on Tuesday night.

Thieves made off with items including a chainsaw overnight following a spate of robberies near Cullahill.

A number of domestic sheds and cars were broken into in the Rapla area in the early hours of this morning.

Equipment and the chainsaw were taken during the robberies.

Gardai in Laois are also investigating a break-in at Rathdowney Golf Club  in the early hours of this morning.

A glass panel of a door was broken during the robbery.
