Super Saturday of U-21 finals the highlight of this week’s Laois GAA fixtures

Barring draws – which you can never rule out – the curtain will come down on the Laois GAA adult season this weekend, with three U-21 finals scheduled for this Saturday in O’Moore Park.

Rathdowney-Errill and Clough-Ballacolla played out a thrilling draw in the U-21 hurling decider last Saturday in O’Moore Park and their replay has been fixed for this coming Saturday at 2pm again in Laois GAA HQ.

It’s the first of three games in the county grounds on Saturday – with the U-21 ‘A’ and ‘B’ finals pencilled in for a double header later that evening.

It’s a demanding schedule for an O’Moore Park pitch that has seen a lot of recent action – and there is a proviso that the ‘B’ final be moved to the Training Centre pending weather conditions.

That game is a local derby featuring Ballylinan and Na Fianna Og – a combination of the two Arles clubs and Barrowhouse. It is a first adult final appearance for them since their amalgamation at underage level. That game is down for decision at 5.15pm.

The U-21 ‘A’ final is between Portarlington and Graiguecullen at 7pm. Port won this year’s minor final and will be looking to add further silverware in what has been a good year for them.

They won the corresponding minor title three years ago but Graigue have been competitive at this age group all the way up along and can call on Laois senior players Trevor Collins and Danny O’Reilly as well as a host of other players who have county underage experience.

Friday evening sees two U-15 Cross Border competition finals as well as U-13 Division 1 football final.
