Dangerous junction in Castletown to be reviewed

On the spot fines for road side dwellers

A treacherous junction in Castletown will be considered for new safety measures to implemented by Laois County Council.

The junction between Daingeanroe and main R445 road was addressed by councillor James Kelly at the recent Mountmellick/Borris-in-Ossory Municipal District meeting.

Cllr Kelly said that area must be upgraded, “as a matter of urgency”.

Cllr Kelly spoke about a series of hazards at the junction and asked for safety works to begin at the site.

Area engineer Paul McLoughlin said a member of staff from Laois County Council would meet cllr Kelly at the location to, “examine the issues of concern”.

New Line Road and Clonincurragh

Cllr Kelly also spoke about the hazards at the junction of New Line Road and Clonincurragh and asked for safety measures like stop signs, rumble strips and road markings at the junction.

Mr McLoughlin said that the council would carry out works to make the junction safer.

Flooding problems outside a house in Ringstown, Mountrath were also raised and Mr McLoughlin said a member of Laois county council staff would visit the area to try establish the cause of flooding and come up with solutions.
