Fitzgibbon Cup Quarter Final

University of Limerick will face DJ Carey’s IT Carlow in the Fitzgibbon cup semi final after they trashed University College Cork today.

UL, who had Rosenallis’ John Lennon on the bench, took the lead early in this one and romped to a 22 point win in the end.

The Limerick side have not won this competition since 2015 and they will face a very stern test next week up against Enda Rowland, Cha Dwyer, Seán Downey and co in the last four.

But there was no test here as a forward from Tipperary and another from Limerick tore their Cork opponents asunder.

UCC didn’t score from play until Rickard Cahalane landed a point, eight minutes from time, and the game was already beyond them at half-time when they trailed by 2-10 to 0-6.

Limerick’s Barry Murphy scored 2-4 while Tipperary’s Jason Forde notched 2-1 as they ran out convincing winners.

Rosenallis’ Lennon had appeared as a substitute in previous games but he was not used today and will hope to see game time next Tuesday in the semi final.

Meanwhile, in today’s other game, DIT got the better of UCD in Belfield, beating them 0-19 to 0-17. Laois’ Cian Taylor was an unused substitute on the DIT side who have booked their place in their first ever Fitzgibbon Cup semi-final.
