Warning of further snow in Laois

Further snow is on the way in Laois, Met Eireann has confirmed

It has issued an orange weather warning for Laois, Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Monaghan, Galway and Munster.

The latest warning was issued by Met Éireann this afternoon.

“Snow accumulations continuing to increase due to further falls of snow,” it confirmed.

Roads in Laois remain treacherous.

Gardai have just confirmed that the R419 Portlaoise to Portarlington Road is now closed between its junction with the R445 and R422 – between the Wheel Inn and Kennels Cross.

Serious difficulties were being encountered along the N80 between Portlaoise and Mountmellick and Mountmellick and Killeigh.

The emergency services in the county have been hampered by slow moving traffic and abandoned cars on the road, which have disrupted clearing and salting of roads.
