Foul play ruled out as Mountmellick sudden death victim named

A man in his 60s who died suddenly in Mountmellick on Sunday morning has been named as James (Jimmy) Quigley.

Mr Quigley was found dead outside his home in St Joseph’s Terrace on Sunday, leading Gardai to cordon off the scene and call in the assistance of the State Pathologist.

Gardai said they were treating it as sudden death but they were investigating further. A post mortem ruled out foul play.

St Joseph’s Terrace is located opposite the entrance to St Vincent’s Hospital in Mountmellick.

The late Mr Quigley is survived by his sisters Jess Bracken (Portarlington), Nancy McGrath (Portlaoise), Mary and Bernadette (England), brothers Paul (Cork), Charlie (England), Donal (Dublin) and Paschal (Scotland). He is also survived by his nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his sister Pauline.

Funeral arrangements will be announced on Tuesday.
