In Pictures: Crowds brave the bad weather at the Colaiste Iosagain 5km run

Over 600 students and staff braved the miserable conditions for the annual Colaiste Iosagain 5km run.

This is the seventh staging of this event – meaning that the race has now been held longer than any student has been in the school.

The now traditional route goes down the Bog Road as far as Marian Hill,  then sees competitors turn right into Spa Street, around by the Leisure Centre, up Main Street and back to the school via Patrick Street.

Once again, the community turned out in their dozens, if not hundreds, to support the participants.

The guest of honour this year was John Sugrue, the Laois Football Manager.

Invaluable technical assistance was once again provided by St. Michael’s Athletic Club.

While there were prizes for the first three across the line in the Junior and Senior boys and girls categories – the emphasis was squarely on participation and fun.

Everyone who took part received a brilliant custom made commemorative t-shirt.
