Football leagues come to a conclusion as final pairings confirmed

Ballyroan-Abbey will meet Arles-Kilcruise in the final of the Laois Shopping Centre ACFL Division 1B after tonight’s results in the concluding round of the league stages.

Ballyroan were 1-18 to 0-8 winners over Emo, the goal coming from player manager Padraig McMahon with Michael Tierney landing a selection of points from frees and play.

A Ballyroan win assured them of second place, although Killeshin’s draw with Crettyard meant that they couldn’t catch regardless of what happened.

Crettyard were relegated following Monday’s loss to Ballyroan while Rosenallis made the drop after opting to give neighbours Mountmellick a walkover.

There was also a draw in the game between Arles-Kilcruise and Arles-Killeen but Kilcruise were into the final anyway and Killeen were safe from relegation prior to throw in.

In Division 1A, The Heath beat Stradbally to relegate Barney Maher’s side while Portarlington got the better of St Joseph’s. Portarlington couldn’t reach the final while St Joseph’s were already top of the division and will meet O’Dempsey’s in the final for a second successive season.

Both Division 1A and 1B league finals are scheduled for the weekend after next, July 14/15, but the fixtures won’t be confirmed until Monday when it’s known if Laois are into the Super 8s of the All Ireland football championships or not.

The other game down for decision this evening was the U-15 hurling league semi-final where Borris-Kilcotton beat Rosenallis to set up a final meeting with Rathdowney-Errill next week.
