Portarlington could soon become a popular destination for walkers and anglers, if a €200,000 euro project is approved by Offaly County Council.

The project would see enhanced trails being developed from the town to Derryounce lake, building on previous work paid for by Laois Partnership.

The trails will be accessible for elderly and disabled people, and could be marketed for Park Runs and other attractions.

Upgraded car parks in the town

Chairman of Portarlington Development Association Aidan Mullins spoke to Midlands 103 this morning:

“If we were successful we would spend it on upgrading one of the existing loop walks, which commences at Portarlington here opposite Marian Hill.

We would install benches, we would have additional signage and have upgraded car parking facilities as well.”
