Park-Ratheniska versus Camross. Not a fixture you would usually see but a junior fixture nonetheless. Some excellent displays from Darragh Nolan, Jimmy Langton and Sean Tynan set these two teams well-apart in terms of scores but Camross must be commended. To have a four-day turnaround from their previous championship football match and under a week’s turnaround from their hurling exploits must have this team fatigued as they wave the dual banner.

Park-Ratheniska dominated from the off – with Darragh Nolan getting the first of his scores from the signature left-wing after a well-hit pass from Byran Flanagan. Park-Ratheniska would hit three wides before Sean Tynan tapped over the first of his frees from the 21 yard line.

Nolan slotted another over from the left-wing before Flynn smashed the ball into net to give his side a six-point lead. Kieran Delaney slotted over his first after a lay-out from Richie Hitchcock before Jimmy Langton made a superb sprint from midfield to put his name on the board. Langton’s pace was put to use again as he handpassed the ball over two defenders’ heads and volleyed the ball on the bounce to Nolan to slot it over.

Langton came to the fore again with Nolan setting up the midfielder for Park-Ratheniska’s second goal.

Robert Tyrell got the first of Camross’s scores in the 25th minute – soloing through the Park-Ratheniska defence. Thomas Dunphy struck a free for Camross a minute later but that would be the last they would hit in the first half as Eric Ward blew for half-time and Park-Ratheniska finished the half 2-9 to 0-2.

There was no stopping Nolan on the scores tonight as he opened the second half for Park-Ratheniska before substitute Paddy Kelly let his presence be known with a point of his own. Camross’s Kevin Lalor did his bit to keep the scores out as did Park-Ratheniska’s Paul Brennan – who never let up defensively.

Nolan and Tadhg Drennan traded points but that would be the last of Camross’s scoring as Park-Ratheniska kicked on and finished the match 2-15 to 0-3 victors.
