A Laois student has got 600 points in Cistercian College Roscrea, following in the footsteps of his brother who got a similarly impressive result last year.

Liam Crowley, from Emo, received in excess of 600 points in his Leaving Cert and was joined by his mother Louise when he collected his results this morning.

The young Emo man, who was on the school’s senior cup rugby team and also plays for the Emo senior footballers, is now hoping to study engineering in UCD.

Liam’s older brother Finbarr, also a past pupil of the Cistercian Roscrea, sat his Leaving Cert in 2017 and from it gained an entrance scholarship to UCD where he is now studying engineering.

Among his college colleagues is his school mate Conor Kelly, from Portlaoise, who is part of the Leinster U-20 rugby team. Finbarr was part of the Laois senior football team this year that reached the Leinster final.

Students and parents of the Leaving Cert class of 2018 arrived at Cistercian College from early morning to collect their results.

“The vast majority of the class were confident that they will receive an offer of their first choice course, however this will be confirmed when the CAO publishes the offers on Monday,” said the school’s principal Gerry Grealish, who lives in Portlaoise.

Cistercian Roscrea moved from an all seven-day boarding school to offering five-day and day-boarding options in 2017.

Located just on the Offaly-Tipperary border, it has strong Laois links over the years – in terms of both students and teachers.
