Rosenallis 3-14 Colt Gaels 1-6
Laois Shopping Centre SHC ‘A’ Quarter-final

Rosenallis turned on the style in the second half of their Laois SHC ‘A’ quarter-final against Colt Gaels this evening to comfortably see off Colt Gaels and move into a semi-final showdown with The Harps or Rosenallis in two weeks’ time.

Having played against the wind, Rosenallis trailed by a point, 1-4 to 0-6, at half time. But they took complete control in the second half and outscored Colt by 3-9 to 0-2 between then and Mick Cleere’s final whistle.

Brian Murphy got Colt Gaels off to a dream start with a goal in the opening minute and they stayed ahead for the rest of the half – with James Keyes, PJ Daly, Chris Murray and Mark McDonald all registering points.

A couple of long-range Stephen Kelly frees, three from Paddy Keating and one from Jack Conroy kept Rosenallis in touch but they were one down at the break.

John Lennon levelled things up early in the second half and Rosenallis soon took full control. Lennon goaled in the 40th minute to put six points between the sides and the scores kept coming – with Simon Smith and John Maher also finding the back of the net.

Smith, Maher, Paddy Keating and Lennon also added points while James Keyes and Chris Murray mustered a point apiece for Colt.

In the end Rosenallis had 15 points to spare and while they turn attention back to football next week and an intermediate semi-final meeting with Mountmellick, they’ll be back in the Senior ‘A’ semi-final on the weekend of September 22/23.
