After three rounds of relative shadow boxing, the Laois SHC should go up a level in terms of intensity in O’Moore Park this afternoon with a double header of quarter-finals.
Rathdowney-Errill and Abbeyleix meet in the first game at 2pm with Clough-Ballacolla and Borris-Kilcotton doing battle in a mouth-watering clash at 3.30pm.
Camross and Ballinakill await the winners in the semi-finals in two weeks’ time.
All four of this afternoon’s teams come with plenty of questions to answer. Abbeyleix won only one of their three group games – that against Ballyfin Gaels in their last outing.
Can they cause a surprise against a Rathdowney-Errill side that seem to be getting stronger at the right stage of the championship even if they only have one win to show for their efforts so far this year?
In the second game, Borris-Kilcotton will need to show that their loss to Ballinakill in their last outing was a one-off, a blip in a game they already knew they were through to the knockout stages. Clough-Ballacolla, too, have to pick things up following a big beating from Camross, although again Ballacolla were already through.
We’ll be blogging throughout the afternoon – keeping you up-to-date with minute-by-minute updates.
