Mountmellick set to represent Laois as enterprise town

Mountmellick is set represent its county as the only Laois town town in a national competition to find the best enterprise town in Ireland.

Mountmellick could be in for winning part of the €157,000 prize fund in many categories including national, regional and small town prizes.

What will happen on judging day 

Mountmellick Development Association applied on behalf of the town. They will begin with a five-person presentation giving of an overview of Mountmellick, what is involved in setting up a new business there, foreign investment in the town and future sustainability and employment developments.

This will be followed by a Q&A session where other community members will answer judges’ questions.

Next they will be invited to Cocoa Couture. Each judge will take a guided walk of the town to meet different businesses and groups. They will visit the library, Wolfetone court, Bay Road industrial estate, the MDA business park and O’Connell House incubation hub.

A visit to the Hares Corner restaurant will wrap the proceedings.

Mountmellick currently holds with 138 businesses and 40 community organisations.

The event is supported by the Business Support Unit of Laois County Council and Bank of Ireland Mountmellick.
