It’s game day!! For four Laois clubs, today is the day they’ve been waiting for all year – and particularly for the last two weeks.
The Laois intermediate and junior football finals take place in O’Moore Park this evening and we’ll keep you up to date no matter what part of the world you’re in.
First up is the clash of Annanough and O’Dempsey’s in the Laois Shopping Centre JFC ‘A’ final at 5.30pm followed by the meeting of Courtwood and Mountmellick Gaels in the IFC decider at 7.30pm.
Annanough, only relegated last year, are bidding for a first championship success since they won the intermediate title in 1978 while O’Dempsey’s second team are part of a big week for the club with their seniors in the SFC semi-final on Sunday.
O’Dempsey’s, who got the better of Kilcavan in the semi-final, were Junior ‘B’ champions in 2007 and have been one of the more competitive junior teams ever since.
The intermediate game will see Courtwood try to end a 31-year wait since their last success in that grade – though they were junior champions in 2014. Mountmellick, like Annanough in the first game, were only relegated last year and looking to make an instant return to the senior ranks.
The two sides met in the opening round when Courtwood won by a point. Both sides have been impressive since with Courtwood recording big wins over Portlaoise and Timahoe and Mountmellick proving far too strong for Barrowhouse, The Rock and Rosenallis.
Our blog will track all of the action, from first minute to last.
Sit back and enjoy!!
