In Pictures: Portlaoise hospital celebrate National Breastfeeding Week

Portlaoise Hospital was filled with both new and experienced mothers alike as they celebrated National Breastweek yesterday, Thursday October 4.

Members of La Leche League Portlaoise were on-hand to welcome parents, as were staff from the Midlands Regional Hospital.

La Leche League organise conference and health professional seminars, as well as support groups for those who wish to breastfeed.

Annually

Over the past year, they have held 611 meetings and coffee mornings, 208 home visits and had over 1,749 calls and contacts from healthcare professionals.

They have also supported 41,588 mothers through text, email and social media, and their local leaders Fiona, Shirley and Heather were on-hand to give advice on the day.

“It’s mainly about mothers coming together,” said Shirley. “Sometimes it can be lonely or people might not know what to do, so the mothers can come together and we give help and advice.”

For more information on La Leche League Portlaoise, you can find them on Facebook or visit their group on the first Tuesday of every month in Treo Nua Resource Centre, Harpur’s Lane, Portlaoise, at 10am.
