BREAKING: Laois Ladies football announce new managers and backroom teams

Laois Ladies have a new manager

The new Laois Ladies football manager has been confirmed.

Kildare man David Gibson has been announced as the new Laois Ladies manager.

Gibson has been involved in training both men’s and women’s teams in Dublin and Meath, and was most recently involved in Dunshaughlin ladies team in Meath.

LaoisToday understands that the Dublin-based Garda will be joined by Ballyfin’s Stephen Duff as assistant manager, Portlaoise native Danny O’Shea as trainer and Teddy McCormack as selector – although these have not been officially sanctioned as of yet.

Duff has managed the Ballyfin Ladies for the last number of years and led them to two Junior finals.

This year, he took the reigns of the Ballyfin Gaels senior team who ended up in the relegation final in the SFC but managed to defeat Clonaslee Gaels to preserve their status.

Former Laois ladies player and minor manager Linda Hooban also joins as selector and female liaison officer.

Nigel Pearson and Donnagh Flannery will be over the Strength and Conditioning during Gibson’s term.

Pearson owns his own gym in Portlaoise and has been heavily involved with the Laois GAA mens teams in recent years.

Flannery worked with the Laois minor footballers under Donncha Phelan this year.

Gibson takes over from Graiguecullen native Kevin Doogue as the Laois Ladies manager for the upcoming year.

Doogue was over the intercounty side for the last three years, and was recently appointed as the Leinster interprovincial manager in October.

Under him, Laois were relegated from senior to intermediate but retained their Division 2 league status in the last two years.

They won the Leinster Intermediate championship this year but went out in the quarter final stage of the All-Ireland championship against Roscommon.

Taking over the Laois Ladies minor team is Timahoe’s Tom  McKittrick.

McKittrick was a selector on the Laois senior football team under Peter Creedon and has trained both Timahoe men’s and women’s teams.

McKittrick takes over from another Graiguecullen man, Joe Nolan, for the role.

Joining him as a selector is Laois LGFA treasurer and Barrowhouse woman Martina Phelan.

This minor team will be made up of members of the U16 Laois ladies side, who reached the All-Ireland ‘B’ final last year, were they were eventually defeated by Mayo.

The minors begin training on Sunday, November 18 at 11.30am. All are welcome to attend.
