Portlaoise RFC lost for the second time this season away to a powerful Cill Dara team this afternoon.

And it is a defeat which leaves them in fourth position in the table, seven points behind leaders Newbridge as we approach the midpoint of the calendar.

Portlaoise got off to a great start in the game as an Armond Smit try was converted by Jack Reddin to give them an early 7-0 lead.

But that would be as good as it would get for Portlaoise as despite a Reddin penalty, Cill Dara took control and led by 19-10 at the break thanks to two tries and three penalties.

Portlaoise did get three more tries in the second half with Niall Keenan among the scorers but it wasn’t enough against a rampant Cill Dara side who move up to fifth in the table.

Portlaoise will now have a two week break before they host Mullingar in their next game on November 25.

PORTLAOISE: Niall Keenan; Jamie Holohan, Simon Williams, Armand Smit, Mark Ikpomwen; Jack Reddin, Darragh McAuley; Pat Breen, Harry Lalor, Brian Flannery; Will Sherlock, Diarmuid Joyce; Mark Sherlock, Ross Cooper, Robin Foot. Replacements: Chris Cahill, Shane Reilly, Jack Kavanagh, Aaron Thompson, Gavin Coughlon
