2018 Remembered – Gardai install two permanent speed vans on M7 where works continue

When will these M7 works finish? They feel like they’ve been going on forever.

The stretch between Junction 8 and 11 is a 60km zone but with motorists routinely ignoring that limit, gardai installed two speed vans in November.

They caught over 100 people in the first day and they are still in operation today.

Gardai have announced they will install two permanent speed vans on the M7 between Junction 8 and 11 in a bid to deter motorists from speeding.

Works are currently proceeding to widen the stretch of the road from two lanes to three which will hopefully eventually result in reduced traffic congestion when it is complete.

Since works have commenced on the M7 route between Junction 8 and Junction 11, in excess of 500 fixed penalty notices have been issued by An Garda Síochána to motorists for exceeding the speed limit.

During this period 32 motorists have been prosecuted for dangerous driving.

Recent incidents include – very high speeds, poor lane discipline and, vehicles breaking through crash barriers.

Traffic incidents along the route continue to be a cause of significant delays to road users on the route.

From Monday November 26, An Garda Síochána will be deploying two GoSafe Vans on this route to further enhance enforcement activity by local Roads Policing Units.

This measure is being deployed to further deter motorists from breaking the 60kph speed limit in a renewed effort to keep both drivers and those carrying out works on the route safe.

So the message is a very simple one lads – slow down.
