LIVE BLOG: Laois hurlers take on Dublin in the Walsh Cup

Eddie Brennan’s charges are out in the third round of the Walsh Cup this afternoon against Dublin at 2pm.

Five changes have been made to the side who lost out to Carlow in the second round of the pre-season competition.

Laois started the competition well, coming out a goal on top against Offaly in Birr at the start of their campaign.

The next round was less favourable for Laois, suffering an eight-point defeat at the hands of Carlow at home.

For Laois to have any chance of emerging from the group stages, they have to defeat Dublin today.

It’s still all to play for in this Walsh Cup. Dublin go in as favourites having recorded wins over Offaly and Carlow in previous rounds.

However if Laois beat the Dubs they will be equal having won one and lost one game each.

Offaly face Carlow in the remaining game in the group at the same time today.

If Laois defeat Dublin, they would need Offaly to beat Carlow in order to go straight through to the semi finals alongside Kilkenny, Wexford and Galway.

However, if Laois win and Carlow also win, all three teams will be tied at the top of the table and points difference will come into play.

If Laois lose out to Dublin, they will not progress any further in the Walsh Cup, and will have to wait until the end of January for their next competitive match – which pits them against Galway in Division 1B of the league.
